Situation: Independent review of prior years tax returns.

Work: Review highlighted a few issues requiring investigation beyond income tax compliance.

Outcome: Identified that the existing tax reporting resulted in 1) Violation of Section 42 of Canada Business Corporations Act, 2) missed RRSP contribution room 3) missed tax-free income, and 4) increased audit risk

Rapid growth without financial visability

Situation: Business with 5 employees, plus rental properties was not receiving advice nor value from it current accountant, a national mid-sized firm. The owner received no financial statements and had lacked detailed insight into sources and uses of cash.

Work: Implemented QuickBooks, designed a new chart of accounts custom to the business.

Outcome: Reduction in tax bill by capturing missed expenses, improved financial understanding of cash flows, and a plan to reduce non-deductible interest.

Bookkeeping

Situation: A digital media service provider was facing increasing bookkeeping fees.

Work: Redesign of the chart of accounts, introduced QuickBooks digital receipt capture

Outcome: Reduced bookkeeping fee by 30% and provided real-time cash flow insight.

Migration to Shopify from Square

Situation: The Client recognized the need to grow, but did not have the time to investigate alternative paths nor the motivation given the time invested into the current system.

Work: Developed a list of requirements to evaluate in-store Retail and e-commerce solutions and performed due diligence. Requirements based on operational needs, marketing considerations to drive sales and vendor resources into what was of importance to the Client's strategy.

Outcome: Successful migration to Shopify of 3000 skews.

Strategic Advice Sets-up Client for Success

Situation: The Client in the retail trade had a minimal online presence. Covid-19 hit forcing it to shutter its doors.

Work: Cajoled the owner to launch an e-commerce store in late 2018. Covid hit in March 2020, and what had been a nascent sales channel become important.

Outcome: 1) Bricks and Clicks strategy resulted in 2020 Covid year sales up 50% over 2019, 2) $2,500 Digital Main Street grant received in 2021, 3) 2021 will see a migration to a richer e-commerce platform with a goal to increase sales.

Do I sell my business

Situation: The Professional Services Client wants to spend less time in the office and take on a new pursuit.

Work: Preparing options for consideration. Working with the Client and family through the decision-making process. Structuring of the option to deliver the greatest economic and lifestyle benefit.

Outcome: A Professional practice was transformed into a Clinic providing both 1) passive cash flows without the daily operational responsibilities and the ability to work part-time.
